Underground Foreman

Greater Tampa Bay, FL Full-time

Lead and manage underground construction crews on directional drilling, trenching, boring, and plowing projects for fiber optic infrastructure deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily field operations for underground construction crews, ensuring production targets and quality standards are met
  • Operate and supervise the use of directional drilling (HDD), trenching, boring, and plowing equipment
  • Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and utility locates before breaking ground
  • Coordinate with project managers on scheduling, material needs, and crew assignments
  • Enforce all OSHA safety requirements and company safety protocols on the jobsite
  • Mentor and train crew members on equipment operation, safety procedures, and construction techniques
  • Maintain daily production logs, equipment inspection records, and crew timesheets

Requirements

Fiber Splicer

Responsibilities

  • Perform fusion splicing on both ribbon and single-fiber cables using industry-standard splicers
  • Conduct OTDR testing, power meter verification, and visual fault location to ensure splice quality
  • Build and organize splice enclosures, patch panels, and fiber distribution hubs
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber in aerial, underground, and building environments
  • Document all splice work, test results, and as-built records for project closeout
  • Maintain splicing equipment, keep tools calibrated, and manage fiber inventory

Requirements

  • 1+ years hands-on fusion splicing experience (ribbon and/or single-fiber)
  • Proficiency with OTDR, power meters, and visual fault locators

Drop Bury Technician

Responsibilities

  • Bury fiber optic service drops at proper depth per client specifications and local codes
  • Operate vibratory plows, trenchers, and mini-excavators for drop burial operations
  • Complete sidewalk and driveway bores using directional boring attachments
  • Verify all utility locates are completed before any ground disturbance
  • Restore job sites to original or better condition — reseed lawns, replace sod, repair landscaping
  • Maintain and perform daily inspections on all assigned vehicles and equipment

Requirements

Fiber Blower

  • Operate fiber blowing machines (Plumett, CBS, or equivalent) to install cable through conduit

  • Monitor air pressure, cable speed, and distance readings during blowing to prevent cable damage
  • Perform conduit mandrel testing and verification before cable placement
